You can be the most qualified applicant in your field and still not get an interview!
From a stack of 100 résumés an employer will spend as little as ten seconds scanning and tossing each one, selecting just ten to read carefullyand perhaps half of those ten will get interviews.
Constructed and packaged properly, your résumé will make the cut and you will be among the cream of the crop called in for an interview. Creating such a résumé takes time, know-how, and state-of-the-art equipment and software.
What must be included in a winning résumé?
- You must include the following: name, address, telephone number, and work history (include dates, company names and cities, your titles, job descriptions, and accomplishments).
- You may include your job objective, geographical preference, military service, hobbies, and other activities and personal data.
- You must never include reasons for leaving, salary history or requirements (include a separate addendum if you feel you must address this for certain employers), photographs, names of spouse or children, or references (include references on a separate page if you feel you must).
Résumés should be creative, but not gimmicky; imaginative, but always tasteful and professional. Use care in selecting papers, inks, borders, and graphics.
What is the advantage of a résumé service?
A résumé service functions as your personal advertising agency, providing you with the tools you need to sell yourself effectively. Advertising says, "Try me, buy me!" That's what your résumé should say to your potential employer. It must be visually appealing, well-written, concise, easy to read, dynamic, and laser-focused toward your target audience.
A quality full-service résumé company should be able to offer its clients everything, whether it's a top-of-the-line brochure-type résumé and cover letter for an executive negotiating a six-figure compensation package, or a simple data sheet for a first-time applicant seeking an entry-level salary.
You have only one chance for a first impressionmake it a good one!
